On Monday, January 29, 2024, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City welcomed the World Water Council team, which is responsible for evaluating Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2027 World Water Forum. The bid is led by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.
The team members were presented with detailed presentations on the major projects and initiatives contributing to the sustainability of the water sector in Riyadh, as well as the city’s efforts to host the Riyadh Expo 2030. These initiatives support Riyadh’s bid to host this global water-related event, which is expected to attract over 40,000 visitors.
It is worth noting that the World Water Council team recently held its first workshop to assess Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2027 World Water Forum in Riyadh. The team reviewed the city’s qualifications to host the event, along with the added value and qualitative leap that the forum’s Riyadh edition would offer if selected.
The visiting delegation also explored the city’s key attractions, including the national museum at the King Abdulaziz Historical Center, along with cultural and historical landmarks that reflect the depth of Saudi Arabia’s heritage.

Prior to the World Water Forum, several consultative conferences will be held at various levels in 2025 and 2026 to prepare for this important event. In May of this year, the winning country for hosting the 11th edition of the forum will be announced during the 2024 World Water Forum, which will be held in Bali, Indonesia.
