“Green Riyadh” has announced the commencement of construction for three major parks in Riyadh, covering an area of over 550,000 square meters. These parks will be located in the Al-Munsiyah, Al-Rimal, and Al-Qadisiyyah neighborhoods, aiming to enhance the quality of life, provide recreational spaces for residents and visitors, increase the per capita green space by 16 times its current size, and transform Riyadh into one of the most sustainable cities globally.
“Green Riyadh” is one of the major projects launched by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – may God protect him – under the initiative of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister – may God protect him. This initiative significantly contributes to achieving one of the targets of the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030, which is planting 10 billion trees across the Kingdom. The project aims to plant 7.5 million trees in Riyadh, increase the city’s green coverage to 9% of its area, raise the per capita green space from 1.7 square meters to 28 square meters, and contribute to reducing temperatures and improving air quality by decreasing pollution and dust.

The designs of the three major parks, located in the eastern part of Riyadh, feature integration with and connection to the nature of Wadi Al-Sulay, which extends through the eastern region, as well as their connection to the sports pathway through tree-lined pedestrian corridors. Green spaces will make up 65% of the total area of these parks, with more than 585,000 trees and shrubs to be planted. The parks will include walking paths covering 18 km, running paths extending 8 km, and cycling tracks spanning 8.5 km. Additionally, there will be 22 children’s play areas offering innovative educational experiences to promote environmental awareness. The parks will also feature green terraces, open-air event spaces, sports facilities for all age groups, and water features that will positively impact the surrounding environment.

It is worth mentioning that the “Green Riyadh” project is implementing major parks in various locations across the city, along with greening residential neighborhoods, creating neighborhood parks, greening internal streets, creating tree-lined sidewalks and pedestrian paths, greening mosques, schools, and parking lots, as well as greening valleys and their tributaries, main roads, public squares, and government and public buildings such as ministries, authorities, universities, and cultural centers. In addition, irrigation networks covering a total length of 1,350 km are being implemented throughout the city. The Green Riyadh nurseries are also producing 3 million trees, shrubs, and ground covers annually to meet the tree planting needs.
