The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has announced the commencement of fencing and planting one million trees in the Tuwaiq Reserve.

These efforts reflect the leadership’s commitment to ensuring environmental sustainability, preserving and enhancing natural resources through multi-benefit and impactful projects. These projects contribute to achieving the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the “Saudi Green Initiative,” which aims to plant 10 billion trees across the Kingdom. The initiative also aims to combat desertification, improve temperature and air quality by reducing pollution and dust, protect biodiversity, and integrate the efforts of key stakeholders while involving citizens in increasing vegetation cover and protecting the land and nature.

It is noteworthy that the Tuwaiq Reserve operates under the supervision of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. The “Planting One Million Trees in the Tuwaiq Reserve” initiative includes planting trees and shrubs in the valleys and natural areas, caring for them, as well as fencing these areas to ensure their sustainability. This will focus on planting locally significant trees, such as Acacia, Tamarix, Sidr, and others, while applying the highest standards of sustainable agriculture and maximizing the benefit from rainwater harvesting and floodwater collection.

It is also worth mentioning that the afforestation work in the valleys and natural areas within the Tuwaiq Reserve is one of the first initiatives aimed at enhancing the vegetation cover in the reserve. This initiative aims to protect the environment and natural resources to achieve sustainable development, improve the quality of life for Riyadh residents and visitors, preserve its natural environment, and create natural recreational spaces in the surrounding areas of the capital.
